I'm Geoff Lane. I've been a professional software developer since 1999, working across a lot of different technologies and a lot of different places.

Startups in Silicon Valley during the tail end of the dot-com boom, then Chicago. A consulting firm in Milwaukee. Custom software for clients out of Cincinnati. Then I started building sports analytics software for a long time. I've lived in Ohio twice, plus Wisconsin, Illinois, Texas, Virginia and California. Now I'm in Windsor, Ontario, with my wife, my son, and three cats.

I've never been especially loyal to one language or paradigm — object-oriented and functional, static and dynamic, whatever the problem actually calls for. I like proven tools and I keep an eye on new ones. I prefer Unixy systems. I use Vim because it's awesome.

Away from a keyboard: I cook and play guitar. I like heavy metal — At The Gates, Dark Tranquillity, In Flames, Lamb of God, High on Fire — though Johnny Cash and Dylan get their turns too. I've been to twelve countries so far. Not sure if I'll make it to more or not.
