New Version of WordPress and new Theme

WordPress 2.1

I upgraded to the latest version of WordPress today. Version 2.1.1 was released a couple of days ago. It’s a small bugfix release for the new WordPress 2.1 series. It has added some nice new features including the periodic autosaving of posts as you write them.

One of the nice new features is the ability to set any page as the default main page. This should make WordPress a really nice publishing tool for building web sites with dynamic content. You will no longer have to have the main page be a blog. That’s a nice option.

New Theme

I think I get bored with the site’s look every once in a while, so I like to try new things. I’ve changed the theme again. This time I’m using a fairly plain, light colored theme. Hopefully it will be a bit easier to read now. The theme is based on October Special which is very simple, yet good looking. I hope you agree.

Let me know what you think.

Hey Geoff… I like this theme but the last one was pretty unique.

    Chris,
Yeah, I did like the old one quite a bit. I just felt it was a bit too dark. I guess I’m just playing with some new ideas. I’m not completely sold on the idea of only showing one full post at a time yet, so I might try and play around with that a bit as well.

Wordpress 2.1 is great. I upgraded from 1.x because Iwas drowning in comment spam and needed Akismet. I got a lot of nice surprises in the bargain. The theme looks great, but I agree that more than one full post on the frontpage is preferable.
