I just finished searching for a new service provider and phones and chose Cingular and a Samsung slider phone. I would likely have bought the Pearl based on your findings had I know about the java-ness. Oh well. One thing that moved me to Cingular was its support of Bluetooth for file sharing and to even use the phone as a modem for my laptop. Verizon disables both of these features. However, I have not been able to find a Mac OS X connection script that works for my Samsung phone. I've started writing my own script but I keep bumping into problems. A phone is a social device and it dictates the manner in which you communicate with your fellow earth citizens. Do you want to be business casual all the time? The blackberry is going to destroy your sense of fun. It will leave you eternally focused on the business of information and devoid of thought about cool things like social value and music. Their OS was focused on minimal features due to the low processing power. But now the processing power has outpaced the features possible with OS. I had a Treo 600 it is horrible compared to my new Motorola Q which has great features and looks good. I actually like using my phone now.
